MYOFASCIAL RELEASE

“When I took my first John Barnes Myofascial Release seminar I had such a profound experience myself. I knew at that moment this was one of the most powerful treatment approaches I would ever learn!” – Dr. Sandra Do

An integral part of our treatment approach

Myofascial Release (MFR) is a unique form of physical therapy used for a variety of pain-related and soft-tissue complaints. Trauma, inflammatory processes, and/or surgical procedures create Myofascial restrictions that can produce tensile pressures of approximately 2,000 pounds per square inch on pain sensitive structures that do not show up in many of the standard tests (x-rays, myelograms, CAT scans, electromyography, etc.) At Manual Therapy Associates, we are trained in the John Barnes Myofascial Release Approach.

Fascia surrounds and infuses every muscle, bone, joint, organ and cell of the body. When you stretch a muscle, you are really stretching the fascia. When you injure a muscle, the fascia around it becomes inflamed and restricted. Uneven stress is transmitted through the fascia to other parts of the body, where symptoms may manifest. Unequal fascial tension can compress nerves and muscles, causing pain and limiting function.   Myofascial Release helps by releasing this compressive force.

“Lee was suffering from whiplash and for two years got no relief from a variety of neurologists, chiropractors, physical therapists etc. Only when he saw Tien did he solve the problem. Tien has magic in his hands. He can watch you walk in and know what’s wrong. We’re active people – skiing, biking, horseback riding. Whatever sports injury we have, we go to Tien. We will drive 4 hours one way to see Tien rather than 10 minutes to anyone else. We have referred many people to Tien and he has helped everyone.” – Lee and Julie Miller

Releasing facia can be like stretching taffy. If you pull it quickly there is enormous resistance. When light pressure over time is applied, it melts in your hands!  Most patients are surprised by how gentle Myofascial Release can be.

MFR will safely and gently release the entire myofascial mind/body complex eliminating the pressure of the restricted fascial system (the straightjacket) that causes the symptoms.  MFR provides lasting and comprehensive results and authentic healing. Patients are sent to us from all over for MFR when medicine, surgery or traditional therapy or massage did not produce the desired results.

At Manual Therapy Associates, we use Myofascial Release to treat a wide variety of conditions, from fibromyalgia to headaches & arthritis. If you suffer from chronic injury or pain, talk to us about the many ways physical therapy can help.

Myofascial Release has been a cornerstone of my treatment approach since beginning my career as a physical therapist. I have such a passion for my work and have pursued intensive post graduate education in an eclectic Manual Therapy approach. I enjoy working with complex injuries and challenging cases. Myofascial Release provides an unparalleled response to connective tissue disorders particularly those have been challenging to diagnose and treat with other traditional medical interventions. Although I can never guarantee an outcome, I have seen remarkable improvements in those that were near the end of their rope. Please do not give up. If you have not experienced MFR treatment for your condition, make an appointment today and let’s see if you can start feeling a change tomorrow.
